This icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra, is a vintage-style serigraphy on canvas with rich gold-leaf detailing and an aged patina that echoes a centuries-old original. The beloved hierarch blesses with his right hand and holds the jewelled Gospel, with Christ and the Theotokos shown in the upper corners — restoring to him the Gospel and the omophorion. The Significance of Saint Nicholas

Saint Nicholas (c. 270-343), Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, is among the most beloved saints of the whole Christian world. Renowned for his boundless compassion, he secretly provided dowries for three poor sisters to save them from ruin — the origin of the tradition of secret gift-giving that gave rise to the figure of "Santa Claus."

A defender of the Orthodox faith, he took part in the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in 325; the small figures of Christ and the Theotokos in the corners of his icon recall the tradition that they restored to him the Gospel and the omophorion of his office. He is honoured as a great wonderworker and as the protector of sailors and all who travel by sea, of children, and of the poor and wrongly accused. He is celebrated on 6 December. As a devotional icon, Saint Nicholas is a sign of generosity, protection and loving care — a treasured presence in any prayer corner and a meaningful gift, especially for those who bear his name.
