The Significance of Saint Paisios
Saint Paisios of Mount Athos (1924-1994), born Arsenios Eznepidis in Farasa of Cappadocia, is among the most beloved saints of recent times. After his early years in Konitsa and service in the Greek army, he embraced monastic life and settled on the Holy Mountain, where his humility, discernment and ceaseless prayer drew thousands of pilgrims to his cell at Panagouda.
Known for his warmth, his comforting counsel and the many miracles attributed to him, he became a spiritual father to countless faithful around the world. He reposed on 12 July 1994 and was formally glorified as a saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 2015; his feast is celebrated on 12 July. As a devotional icon, Saint Paisios is a sign of consolation, guidance and hope — a cherished presence in any prayer corner and a meaningful gift of blessing.
