The Significance of Saint Paisios

Saint Paisios the Athonite (1924-1994), born Arsenios Eznepidis, is among the most beloved saints of recent times — a humble monk of Mount Athos renowned for his discernment, his counsel and his boundless love for all who came to him. He is shown here with the two saints most deeply woven into his life: in one corner Saint Arsenios the Cappadocian, the holy priest of Farasa who baptised him as an infant and gave him his own name; and in the other Saint Euphemia the Great Martyr, who, according to the Elder's own account, once visited him in his cell and spoke with him, strengthening his faith.

Glorified as a saint in 2015, Saint Paisios is celebrated on 12 July. As a devotional icon, this image gathers the Elder together with his baptiser and his heavenly visitor — a treasured presence in any prayer corner and a meaningful gift, especially for those who love Saint Paisios.
