The Significance of the Holy Trinity
Painted in the early 15th century by Saint Andrei Rublev, this is the most beloved and theologically profound icon of the Holy Trinity in the Orthodox tradition. It depicts the three angels who visited the Patriarch Abraham at the oak of Mamre (Genesis 18) — "the Hospitality of Abraham" — through which the Church beholds the mystery of the one God in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, seated in silent communion around a single chalice.
Rublev's composition, with its circle of gentle, inclining figures, expresses divine love, unity and self-giving. As a devotional icon it draws the faithful into the peace and harmony of the Triune God — a profound presence in any prayer corner and a meaningful gift of blessing for baptisms, weddings, or a new home.
