The Significance of Saint Raphael Saint Nicholas Saint Irene Lesvos
This beautifully crafted wooden icon of Saints Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene is made from high-quality natural sycamore wood, ensuring durability over time. The eco-friendly colors enhance its beauty while promoting sustainability.
The holy New Martyrs Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene were martyred by the Turks on the island of Lesbos on Bright Tuesday (April 9, 1463), shortly after the fall of Constantinople. St. Raphael was the Abbot of Karyes, St. Nicholas served as a deacon, and St. Irene was the 12-year-old daughter of the village mayor. Together, they faced martyrdom during a Turkish raid.
Though forgotten for nearly 500 years, the saints reappeared in dreams and visions in 1959, guiding excavations of their graves, calling people to repentance, and healing various ailments. The Church commemorates them on April 9 and on the Tuesday of Bright Week, alongside St. Eleni, New Martyr of Lesbos.
