The Significance of the Panagia Paramythia

The Panagia Paramythia — "the Consolation" or "the Comfort" — is one of the most beloved wonderworking icons of Mount Athos, treasured at the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi. It recalls a moment of divine intervention in which the Mother of God warned the monks of an impending raid: in the image the Christ-child reaches up to cover His mother's mouth, while she gently moves His hand aside to speak her warning.

For this reason she is venerated as the ever-watchful protectress who brings comfort and peace to those in distress. As a devotional icon, the Panagia Paramythia is a sign of the Mother of God's maternal care and intercession — a treasured presence in any prayer corner and a meaningful gift.

Handmade in Greece since 1978.

Every piece leaves our workshop finished by hand — the wood prepared, the image laid, the surface aged and varnished. One at a time, the way Greek icon workshops have worked for generations.

We make them to be lived with: held in prayer, hung in a quiet corner, passed on.

"Come close to God, and God will come close to you." — James 4:8
