The Significance of Saint Anna

Saint Anna, together with her husband Joachim, is honoured as the parent of the Most Holy Theotokos and thus the grandmother of our Lord. Though the couple remained childless into old age and bore the reproach of barrenness, they never ceased to pray; and in answer to their faith an angel announced to them the birth of a daughter — the Virgin Mary, who would become the Mother of God.

For this reason Saint Anna is especially loved and invoked by mothers and grandmothers, by childless couples and by all who long for a child. She is commemorated several times in the Church's year, including the Conception on 9 December and her Dormition on 25 July, and together with Joachim on 9 September. As a devotional icon, Saint Anna is a sign of faith, patience and the blessing of children — a treasured presence in any prayer corner and a meaningful gift for those who bear her name.

Handmade in Greece since 1978.

Every piece leaves our workshop finished by hand — the wood prepared, the image laid, the surface aged and varnished. One at a time, the way Greek icon workshops have worked for generations.

We make them to be lived with: held in prayer, hung in a quiet corner, passed on.

"Come close to God, and God will come close to you." — James 4:8
