Saint Ephraim Katounakiotis was born in 1912 in Thebes, Greece. As a young person, he was always drawn to the ways of God and the scriptures. He knew he wanted to become a monk when he grew up and eventually joined Mount Athos, specifically the Katounakia, where he spent 65 years of his life. He was well known for his strong praying ability. Christ himself even appeared to Saint Ephraim. Elder Ephraim was also well acquainted with Elder Joseph the Hesychast who is also a Saint today. These fathers are proof that even in these modern times, it is possible to become a Saint.
