This beautifully crafted Orthodox icon of St. Efthymios the Great is made using the traditional lithography technique, featuring a double varnish layer for water resistance and long-lasting durability. Handmade artificial aging adds a timeless, antique appearance, reflecting the sacred artistry and spiritual depth of Byzantine iconography. Produced by an artisan trained in the Monasteries of Mount Athos, this icon represents the highest standards of Orthodox Christian craftsmanship.
St. Efthymios the Great (377–473 AD) was a renowned monk, ascetic, and spiritual leader, known for his life of prayer, fasting, and miracles. Born in Melitene, Armenia, he became one of the great desert fathers of Palestine. His teachings and guidance led many to a life of holiness and repentance. He was also known for healing the sick and performing miracles through the power of God. His feast day is celebrated on January 20th, commemorating his holy life and enduring legacy in the Orthodox Church.
In Orthodox iconography, St. Efthymios is often depicted as a bearded elder, symbolizing his wisdom, holiness, and ascetic life. He holds a scroll or gestures in blessing, representing his role as a teacher of faith and virtue. His image serves as an inspiration for spiritual growth and unwavering commitment to the Gospel.
This Orthodox icon can be hung on a wall or placed on a flat surface, making it a beautiful and meaningful addition to any prayer corner or sacred space. It reminds the faithful of the transformative power of a life devoted to Christ and the rewards of humility, prayer, and obedience to God.
