The Significance of Saint George
Handmade Greek Orthodox Serigraphy – Saint George icon
Handmade Gold Serigraphy Plaque Saint George
This handcrafted gold serigraphy plaque of Saint George features a vintage look achieved through a unique aging technique on hagiography canvas. Created by skilled artisans using techniques inspired by Mount Athos, it is crafted on solid natural wood and carved by hand.
Saint George, the great martyr and trophy bearer, was born in Cappadocia in 275 AD to Christian parents. After his fathers martyrdom, his mother, Saint Polychronia, and young George settled in Palestine. At 18, George joined the Roman army, quickly rising to the rank of Earl. During Emperor Diocletians persecution of Christians, George openly confessed his faith. Angered, Diocletian imprisoned and subjected him to brutal tortures, including being tied to a wheel with sharp irons, thrown into lime pits, and made to wear burning shoesall of which he miraculously survived. After another imprisonment, George dreamed of receiving the crown of martyrdom. Refusing to sacrifice to idols, he was eventually beheaded on April 23, 303 AD, a date celebrated by the Church as his feast day.<"118" data-end="175" class="">Saint George is venerated as the patron saint of the Infantry, England, Crusaders, and Scouts. He is associated with the tale of slaying a dragon to save a princess, a symbol of triumph over evil. This icon combines artistry and spiritual significance, making it suitable for display in any home or sacred space.
