The Significance of Saint Jude Thaddeus

The Holy Apostle Jude, also called Thaddeus (and Lebbaeus), was one of the Twelve Apostles of Christ and, by tradition, one of the Brethren of the Lord. He is the author of the Epistle of Jude in the New Testament, in which he exhorts the faithful to remain steadfast and to contend earnestly for the true faith.

After Pentecost he preached the Gospel through Mesopotamia, Persia and Armenia, working many miracles, and at last received the crown of martyrdom for Christ. He is to be distinguished from Judas Iscariot, the betrayer; in the Western Church he is especially invoked as the helper in difficult and desperate situations. He is celebrated on 19 June.
