This beautifully crafted Orthodox icon of St. Prokopios is created using the traditional lithography technique, with a double varnish layer for enhanced water resistance and lasting durability. The icon undergoes handmade artificial aging, giving it a timeless, antique appearance that reflects the sacred beauty of Byzantine iconography. Produced by an artisan trained in the Monasteries of Mount Athos, this icon represents the highest standards of Orthodox Christian craftsmanship.
St. Prokopios the Great Martyr was a Roman officer in the 3rd century during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. Originally named Neanias, he was a fierce persecutor of Christians. However, after a divine vision of Christ on his way to combat the faithful, he experienced a profound conversion, was baptized, and zealously proclaimed the Gospel. He suffered brutal tortures for his faith and ultimately attained martyrdom in 303 A.D.. His feast is celebrated on July 8th.
In Orthodox iconography, St. Prokopios is depicted as a military saint wearing armor, holding a cross or sword, symbolizing his martyrdom and spiritual struggle. His serene yet determined expression reflects his unwavering faith and his triumph over earthly power through divine grace.
This Orthodox icon of St. Prokopios can be hung on a wall or placed on a flat surface, making it a spiritually uplifting addition to any prayer corner or sacred space. It inspires reflection on the virtues of courage, repentance, and the transformative power of faith.
