Saint Spyridon of Trimythous (ca. 270-348) was a fourth-century bishop who participated in the First Ecumenical Council. He is revered as the patron saint of Corfu, where his relics are housed, and is affectionately known as the "Keeper of the City." His feast day is celebrated on December 12.

Born in Ashia, Cyprus, Spyridon was an uneducated peasant farmer and shepherd. After his wife passed away, he and their daughter, Irene, entered monastic life. He later became the Bishop of Trimythous during Constantine the Great's reign, known for his deep piety and faith.

Spyridon is also the patron saint of potters, a title stemming from a miracle involving a potsherd. He was arrested during the Maximilian persecutions (295 AD) and attended the First Ecumenical Council in 325 AD, where he astonished attendees with his simple yet profound explanations of the Orthodox Faith. He famously demonstrated the unity and diversity of the Trinity by holding up a brick, illustrating the elements of fire, earth, and water, while miraculously causing fire to blaze from the top and water to flow from beneath.
