The Significance of The Holy Family

Handmade Greek Orthodox Serigraphy – The Holy Family

Handmade Gold Serigraphy Plaque The Holy Family

This handcrafted gold serigraphy plaque depicted The Holy Family, features a unique aging technique that gives it a beautiful vintage look on hagiography canvas. Made by skilled artisans by following the technique instilled in Mount Athos - one of the most beloved pictorial themes. This wonderful serigraphy canvas icon has been crafted on solid natural wood and it was carved by hand.

The Holy Family in Christianity is the family that consists of the Divine Infant Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph the Betrothed. The Holy Family depicts Jesus as an infant in this "human" phase, where His "family" consists of the person who takes care of Him and, of course, the Theotokos, the Virgin Mary.

The four Gospels do not provide many details about the life of the Holy Family in the years before the start of Jesus' public ministry. Matthew and Luke recount events from these years, specifically the Circumcision of Jesus, the Presentation (The Meeting of Jesus Christ), the Flight into Egypt, the return to Nazareth, and the finding of the twelve-year-old Jesus in the Temple. The Holy Family as a whole has its own feast day.

The primary purpose of establishing this feast was to present the Holy Family as a model for Christian families. It is a movable feast, celebrated on the Sunday between Christmas and New Year's Day.

Handmade in Greece since 1978.

Every piece leaves our workshop finished by hand — the wood prepared, the image laid, the surface aged and varnished. One at a time, the way Greek icon workshops have worked for generations.

We make them to be lived with: held in prayer, hung in a quiet corner, passed on.

"Come close to God, and God will come close to you." — James 4:8
