A beautiful icon, crafted on naturally aged wood with Virgin Mary Eleousa / Mercy Giving. According to tradition the original icon was found in Thessalia, in the village of Xyniada, by a child who saw Theotokos. The Holy Mother of God appeared as an unknown woman, who was dressed in black and barefoot to the 8-year-old boy by the name Athanasius Syros, while he was playing. That same night the unknown woman appeared in the sleep of little Athanasius, She told the little boy that he had pure heart and She also told him how to find Her icon.

The boy told everything about his vision to his parents and the villagers and the but none of them believed him. Years later an excavating machine came to Xyniada in order to open the streets of the village, during the excavation they found under the ground the icon of the Virgin Mary. After that the villagers apologized to the children but most of all to Virgin Mary for their mistrust for Her appearance and Her words. At the place the icon was found the villagers built a church dedicated to Virgin Mary Eleousa.

This wonderful icon has been created with the technique of lithography. The creator of this icon has learned the canonization of iconography in workshops of the Monasteries of Mount Athos, where he was taught both the technique of lithography and the process of handmade artificial ageing, which bears the image with the representation of Virgin Mary / Panagia Eleousa or Mercy Giving.
