A UNIQUE AND AUTHENTIC HANDMADE PIECE OF ART with the representation of the Saint Demetrius. A wonderful artwork by following the technique instilled in Mount Athos - one of the most beloved pictorial themes.

This wonderful handmade wooden icon follows the technique of lithography and has a double varnish to ensure water proof properties and long lasting in time. It has been crafted on solid natural wood and it was carved by hand. The creator of this icon has learned the canonization of Byzantine iconography and the theme is an exact copy of Byzantine hagiography.

Saint Demetrios was born in Thesaloniki, Greece in 270 AD. He came from a wealthy family and because he was athletic in appearance and heroic in spirit, he became a high-ranking officer in the Roman Army at a very young age. (This is why he is depicted in Byzantine icons in military dress, either standing or riding a horse.) He considered himself a soldier of Christ first, and a military soldier second. He spent most of his time as a devout missionary, preaching the Gospel at secret meetings and converting pagans to the Christian faith.

Can be hung on a wall or placed on a flat surface.
