This beautiful Orthodox icon is created using the traditional lithography technique with a double varnish layer, ensuring water resistance and long-lasting durability. The artisan behind this icon mastered the sacred art of iconography in the workshops of the Monasteries of Mount Athos, where he learned both lithography and the delicate process of handmade artificial aging. This icon features the revered image of St. George and St. Demetrios, two of Christianity’s most venerated warrior saints.
St. George, the great martyr and faithful servant of Christ, is honored for his courageous witness to the faith. According to tradition, his servant Pasikratis fulfilled his final wish by transporting his relics and those of his mother, St. Polychronia, to Lydda in Palestine. Later, the Crusaders transferred these relics to the West. The Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of St. George on April 23rd. He is often depicted in military attire or mounted on a horse, symbolizing his spiritual battle against evil.
St. Demetrios of Thessaloniki, born in 270 AD, was a prominent Roman officer known for his heroic spirit and noble appearance. Despite his military position, he devoted his life to Christ, preaching the Gospel and converting many to Christianity. He is portrayed in Byzantine icons wearing military dress, either standing or on horseback, symbolizing his dual role as a soldier of the empire and a soldier of Christ. The Church honors his memory on October 26th.
This exquisite Orthodox icon can be hung on a wall or placed on a flat surface, making it a perfect addition to a prayer corner or sacred space.
