Lazarus, meaning "God Has Helped," refers to two figures mentioned in the New Testament. One of the most well-known accounts is found in the Gospel According to John (11:1–45), which tells the miraculous story of Lazarus being brought back to life by Jesus. Lazarus of Bethany was the brother of Martha and Mary, residing in Bethany, near Jerusalem. The narrative highlights Jesus' deep love for Lazarus and his sisters; when Lazarus fell ill and died, Jesus wept and was "greatly disturbed." Despite being entombed for four days by the time Jesus arrived, Lazarus was miraculously raised from the dead, emerging from the tomb still wrapped in his burial cloths.
