Byzantine Silver Icon of Saint Paisios
Saint Paisios of Mount Athos (Greek: Ὅσιος Παΐσιος ὁ Ἁγιορείτης), born Arsenios Eznepidis (1924–1994), was a prominent Greek Eastern Orthodox ascetic from Mount Athos, hailing from Pharasa, Cappadocia. Renowned for his spiritual wisdom and ascetic lifestyle, Elder Paisios is highly venerated by many, especially in Greece and Russia.
He was canonized on January 13, 2015, by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, with his feast day commemorated on June 29 (Old Style) / July 12 (New Style).
On May 5, 2015, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church also decided to include Venerable Paisios of Mount Athos in its Menology, establishing his feast day as June 29/July 12, aligning it with the Orthodox Church of Constantinople's calendar in the present century.
