The Holy Family in Christianity is the family that consists of the Divine Infant Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph the Betrothed. The Holy Family depicts Jesus as an infant in this "human" phase, where His "family" consists of the person who takes care of Him and, of course, the Theotokos, the Virgin Mary.
The four Gospels do not provide many details about the life of the Holy Family in the years before the start of Jesus' public ministry. Matthew and Luke recount events from these years, specifically the Circumcision of Jesus, the Presentation (The Meeting of Jesus Christ), the Flight into Egypt, the return to Nazareth, and the finding of the twelve-year-old Jesus in the Temple. The Holy Family as a whole has its own feast day.
The primary purpose of establishing this feast was to present the Holy Family as a model for Christian families. It is a movable feast, celebrated on the Sunday between Christmas and New Year's Day.
